After years of battling addiction and relapse, Sue reached a turning point—a moment where things could either continue as they were or change for good. And for the first time in a long time, she chose to do things differently.

“I’ve been relapsing for about eight years,” Sue explains. “I was really worried I wouldn’t make it. Worried I’d let myself down. Let everyone else down. Twelve weeks felt like a long time.”

But thanks to the support of the team at Wirral Ways, Sue didn’t give up. And neither did the people around her.

“The staff at CGL never gave up on me. I’ve had people check in on me out of hours, come visit me at home. Even after I had a massive gastric bleed and had to be given CPR by the police—they were still there. Always.”

With that support and encouragement, Sue enrolled in the Discovery Academy—and found herself on a journey that changed everything.

“It’s been amazing,” she says. “I thought I’d be scared about finishing the course, but now I’m just excited. I’ve already signed up for more training, another course… there are so many opportunities. This really is just the beginning.”

For Sue, the past 12 weeks have brought more than just learning—they’ve brought connection, confidence, and real change.

“It’s helped me change my mindset. I’ve made strong bonds, and my recovery circle has grown so much. I think I’ve found me. I’ve learned how to feel comfortable in my own skin. Acceptance of who I am and what I am. And I’m okay with that now.”

Her next goal? Giving back.

“I want to pass it on. Tell people what’s here—what’s on offer. Because it’s life-changing. What was given to me freely, I want to give to someone else.”
