Hi, I’m Vicky and I joined the Wirral Ways team over the summer to help grow and develop their training offer. My role is split across Wirral Ways and the Public Health Team within Wirral Council.
I bring 20 years’ experience of delivering safeguarding and similar learning opportunities to staff and organisations across almost every service dedicated to making life better for the most vulnerable. I am a qualified nurse and Health Visitor specialising in paediatrics across a wide range of environments. I am a passionate advocate for those whose voices cannot be heard and have always strived to ensure inclusivity is at the heart of every message shared.
I am a mum, a runner and love the outdoors and a variety of music.
I can’t wait to get started delivering training to our fantastic staff, volunteers and partners.
Welcome to the first edition of our Wirral Ways training and development newsletter. Whether you are a member of staff, a volunteer or one of our valued partners, I am really glad you are here. This newsletter is all about sharing what is new across our learning and development programme and keeping you connected to the support available.
Over the past few weeks, we have been working closely with teams and partners to shape a training plan that feels relevant, practical and genuinely helpful. Thank you to everyone who has shared insight, highlighted gaps or helped test early ideas. Your contributions have shaped the offer more than you realise.
From 1 December, we will be launching a brand new training area on the Wirral Ways website. This will be a space for everyone working alongside us. You will be able to book onto training, download resources, catch up on materials from previous sessions and leave feedback so we can keep improving.
The full training plan has been shaped by a training needs analysis carried out with managers and partner organisations. We will review this again in the spring so that the programme continues to reflect what you need in your role. Sessions will include a mix of bite-size learning, virtual training and in-person workshops, all supported by up-to-date materials.
I am looking forward to seeing many of you in training over the coming months and continuing to work together to support people across Wirral.
New Addiction Team Trainer for Trainers
We are looking for staff, volunteers and partners who would like to support the delivery of our training programme. You do not need to be an expert. You just need a passion for learning, lived experience in your role and a willingness to share that with others.
If any of the questions below feel familiar, this could be a great opportunity for you.
1. Do you enjoy sharing your own learning and experiences?
2. Do you like supporting students or colleagues to grow?
3. Do you ever feel frustrated when people misunderstand the work we do?
4. Are you passionate about supporting people who use our service?
5. Would you like some additional professional development opportunities?
6. Have you talked this through with your manager?
If you are nodding along, then I would love to hear from you.
Drop me an email at vicky.moran@cgl.org.uk to arrange an informal chat.
Spotlight on the Festive Season
Winter is often described as a season of joy, celebration and connection. In reality, this time of year can be incredibly challenging for many people. Financial strain, family pressures, health concerns, loneliness and grief all become more visible. For the people we support, these pressures are often intensified by addiction, dependence or the early stages of recovery.
Temptation, isolation and overwhelming emotions can make progress feel hard to hold on to. This is where the work we do together as staff, volunteers and partners becomes even more important. Being present, offering kindness, listening without judgement and linking people into the support available can make an enormous difference.
It is also essential that we all take care of ourselves. Supporting others is rewarding but demanding and it can take a toll if we are not looking after our own wellbeing. Taking time to rest, connecting with colleagues, using the support available through your organisation and checking in with your manager or supervisor can help you stay well.
We have included links and resources to support both your practice and your own wellbeing throughout the season.
