Monday 9 to Sunday 15 February 2026
Wirral Ways is supporting National HIV Testing Week 2026, a national campaign encouraging people to test for HIV and know their status.
National HIV Testing Week is led by Terrence Higgins Trust as part of HIV Prevention England and funded by the Department of Health and Social Care. The campaign aims to increase access to HIV testing, reduce late diagnoses, and challenge stigma around HIV.
This year’s campaign uses the message “I Test”, recognising that people choose to test for many different reasons. Whether it is for peace of mind, looking after your health, or protecting others, testing is a positive step.
Why HIV testing matters
HIV testing is the gateway to treatment, care and prevention.
Around 4,700 people in England are estimated to be living with undiagnosed HIV, meaning they are not accessing treatment or support. UK Health Security Agency data also shows that 42% of HIV diagnoses are made late, which can have a serious impact on health.
Once on effective treatment, people living with HIV can stay healthy and cannot pass HIV on during sex. HIV testing is quick, confidential and free, and many people have no symptoms for a long time. Testing is the only way to know your status.
