This year’s Alcohol Awareness Week runs from 6 to 12 July 2026, and we’re marking it by opening our doors to professionals from across the Wirral.
On Thursday 9 July, we’re hosting a free professionals event at Price Street Hub in Birkenhead, running from 3pm to 6pm. If you work with people who drink at harmful levels, or if you regularly signpost to alcohol support services, this event is for you.
What’s it about?
This year’s theme is “Alcohol and me” — an invitation to explore how alcohol truly affects our lives and what we can do about it. For us at Wirral Ways, that means shining a light on the support that’s available right here on the Wirral, and making sure the professionals who work with our communities know how to access it.
Whether you’re a GP, social worker, housing officer, nurse, community support worker, or anyone else who comes into contact with people affected by alcohol use, we want you to come along, meet the team, and leave with a clearer picture of how we can work together.
What’s on?
The event runs across three hours, with activities, staff, and refreshments available throughout. You can drop in, stay for the full session, or dip in and out as your day allows. During your time with us, you’ll have the chance to:
- Meet the Wirral Ways team and find out who does what
- Learn about our alcohol pathway and how referrals work
- Hear directly from someone with lived experience of alcohol use and recovery
- Find out more about our community detox and support offer
There’s no formal agenda or sit-down presentation. This is a chance to have real conversations, ask questions, and connect with the people behind the service.
Why does this matter?
Alcohol harm doesn’t sit neatly within one sector. It touches housing, mental health, family services, employment, and more. The professionals who spot it earliest are often not working in specialist alcohol services at all. They’re the GP who notices a pattern, the housing officer who keeps seeing the same person in crisis, the social worker who wants to refer but isn’t sure where to start.
We know that when professionals feel confident about what’s available and how to access it, more people get the right support at the right time. That’s what this event is about.
Book your free place
The event is free to attend and no booking is required, but registering helps us plan. You can book your place at www.wirralways.org.uk/events/professionals-event-alcohol-awareness-week.
