Our ambulatory detox programme is a 2 week alcohol detox in the community for people who want support to stop drinking safely while continuing to live at home.
It offers a structured and medically supported way to detox from alcohol, with daily contact from our team and support to help you start making lasting changes.
What is an ambulatory detox?
An ambulatory detox is a community-based alcohol detox. That means you stay at home rather than going into hospital or residential rehab, while receiving regular support from our service.
Over the course of 2 weeks, you will attend daily appointments and receive clinical monitoring, medication and therapeutic support to help you safely stop drinking.
How the programme works
During the programme, you will:
- see a nurse every morning for a daily check-in
- be monitored to make sure you are safe and progressing well
- receive relapse prevention medication, where appropriate
- take part in a psychosocial intervention each morning
- have regular support from our team throughout the detox
This daily structure is there to help you feel supported, monitored and encouraged at every stage of the programme.
What support will I get?
The ambulatory detox programme combines clinical support and psychosocial support.
This includes:
- daily nurse appointments
- monitoring of withdrawal symptoms and wellbeing
- medication support, where clinically appropriate
- relapse prevention medication
- psychosocial interventions each morning
- support to help you prepare for ongoing recovery after detox
Detox is not just about stopping alcohol safely. It is also about helping you understand your drinking, build coping strategies and start planning for what comes next.
Who is it for?
This programme may be suitable for people who:
- are dependent on alcohol and need support to stop drinking safely
- are able to attend daily appointments
- have a stable home environment during the detox
- are clinically suitable for a community detox
Before starting, you will have an assessment to make sure this programme is the safest and most appropriate option for you.
Why daily support matters
Alcohol withdrawal can be difficult, and for some people it can be dangerous without the right support.
Daily nurse check-ins help us monitor how you are doing, respond quickly to any concerns and make sure you are supported throughout the detox. The psychosocial intervention each morning also helps you focus on recovery, understand triggers and begin building the tools needed to maintain change.
What happens after the 2 weeks?
Completing detox is a major step, but it is only one part of recovery.
Once your detox is complete, we will help you look at the next stage of support. This may include:
- ongoing psychosocial support
- one to one appointments
- recovery planning
- group support
- relapse prevention work
- wider health and wellbeing support
Our aim is to help you not only complete detox safely, but to give you the best possible chance of maintaining progress afterwards.
