Clinical Services

Clinical services at Wirral Ways focus on your physical health, safety, and wellbeing. They sit alongside psychosocial and recovery support, offering joined up care that looks at the whole person, not just one issue.

Our clinical team works with you to assess health needs, manage risk, and make sure any treatment or medication is safe, appropriate, and supportive of your wider goals.

What we mean by clinical services

Clinical services include healthcare support provided by qualified clinical professionals. This may involve assessments, prescribing, monitoring, and referrals into other health services when needed.

Clinical support is:

  • Person centred and confidential

  • Focused on safety and wellbeing

  • Integrated with your wider support plan

  • Led by evidence based practice

You do not need to be unwell or in crisis to access clinical support.

What our clinical team can help with

Our clinical services can support with:

  • Initial health and clinical assessments

  • Prescribing and reviewing medication

  • Managing withdrawal safely

  • Physical health checks and monitoring

  • Blood borne virus testing and vaccination support

  • Managing long term health conditions alongside substance use

  • Advice on safer use and harm reduction

  • Referrals to GPs, hospitals, or specialist services

Everything is explained clearly, and you are involved in decisions about your care.

Clinical assessments

A clinical assessment helps us understand your health, risks, and needs. This may include discussing:

  • Current and past substance or alcohol use

  • Physical and mental health

  • Medications you are taking

  • Any withdrawal symptoms or health concerns

  • Your goals and priorities

Assessments are supportive conversations, not tests or judgements.

Ongoing reviews and monitoring

Clinical support is not one off. We offer regular reviews to make sure things are working well and to respond to changes.

This includes:

  • Reviewing medication and side effects

  • Monitoring physical health

  • Adjusting support as your needs change

  • Responding early if concerns arise

You can raise questions or concerns at any point.

Working safely and collaboratively

Your safety is central to everything we do. Our clinical team works closely with:

  • Psychosocial and recovery staff

  • Pharmacies and GPs

  • Mental health services

  • Hospitals and specialist clinics

This joined up approach helps make sure nothing is missed and support feels coordinated rather than fragmented.

Harm reduction and health advice

Clinical services also include practical advice to help reduce risk and protect your health, such as:

  • Safer use information

  • Overdose awareness and prevention

  • Blood borne virus education and testing

  • Support around wound care and general health

This support is about keeping people safe and well, wherever they are on their journey.

You will not get in trouble for being honest

Being open about your health or substance use will not get you in trouble. Honest conversations help us support you safely and effectively.

Our role is healthcare and support, not enforcement.

How to access clinical services

Clinical support is available through self referral or professional referral. You do not need to already be in treatment to ask for advice or an assessment.
