What is counselling?

Counselling is a chance to speak to someone about personal or emotional challenges in your life. Counsselling sessions can help you to address:

  • Painful situations in your past
  • Negative behaviours and habits
  • Your goas for the future
  • Counsellors do not give advice or tell you what to do. They discuss problems with you and support you to choose what action to take.

Couselling sessions give you a safe space where you can explore issues to help you make positive changes and reach your potential.

“Attending the service gave me the tools and belief that helped me change. It built up my confidence and made me realise I am not alone.”

Who can access counselling?

If you would like counselling, please speak to your keyworker. Counselling works better when you have already reduced your drinking/substance or stopped completely.

Before you have any counselling sessions, you’ll have a chance to speak with the sounselling service and find out if it’s right for you.

Counselling sessions

You’ll see your counsellor once a week for 50 minutes.

You’ll have 6 sessions to start with. You might be offered more afterwards. Counselling sessions are confidential.

Counsellors

All our counsellors are members of one of the main professional bodies for counsellors and psychotherapists, such as the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP).

Our counsellors use a rnage of recognised psychological approaches and therapeutic methods. They are all regularly supervised by a qualified clinician to ensure that they are working ethically and professionally.

All our counsellors are either students completing their counselling placements or are unpaid qualified volunteer counsellors.
