Holistic Support
Holistic support looks at the whole person, mind, body, and emotional wellbeing. It recognises that recovery and wellbeing are influenced by far more than substance use alone, including stress, trauma, confidence, relationships, physical health, and how connected you feel to yourself and others.
At Wirral Ways, holistic support sits alongside clinical, psychosocial, and recovery services. It offers space to slow down, reconnect, and develop healthier ways of coping and caring for yourself.
What holistic support means
Holistic support focuses on balance, self awareness, and wellbeing. It is about supporting you as a whole person, not fixing or diagnosing you.
Holistic approaches can help to:
-
Reduce stress and anxiety
-
Improve mood and emotional regulation
-
Increase body awareness and relaxation
-
Build confidence and self compassion
-
Support emotional expression and processing
-
Create calm, routine, and connection
You do not need to be abstinent or in crisis to take part.
Holistic therapies and activities we offer
Holistic support at Wirral Ways may include a range of therapeutic and wellbeing based approaches, depending on availability and what feels right for you.
These can include:
Reiki
A gentle, non invasive therapy that focuses on relaxation, grounding, and emotional balance. Many people find Reiki helps them feel calmer, more centred, and less overwhelmed.
Mindfulness
Mindfulness sessions help you develop awareness of thoughts, feelings, and sensations in the present moment. This can be helpful for managing stress, cravings, anxiety, and difficult emotions.
Breathwork
Breathwork focuses on using the breath to regulate the nervous system, reduce tension, and improve emotional control. It can be especially helpful during moments of anxiety or overwhelm.
Yoga and gentle movement
Yoga sessions focus on gentle movement, stretching, breathing, and relaxation. These sessions are accessible and focus on how the body feels, not flexibility or fitness.
Art therapy and creative wellbeing
Creative sessions offer a way to express thoughts and emotions without needing to put everything into words. Art based activities can support reflection, confidence, and emotional release.
Counselling and talking therapies
Counselling provides a confidential, supportive space to talk about thoughts, feelings, and experiences. It can help people process challenges, build coping strategies, and develop insight at their own pace.
How holistic support can help recovery
Holistic support can play an important role in recovery and wellbeing by:
-
Helping manage emotional triggers and stress
-
Supporting better sleep and relaxation
-
Reducing feelings of anxiety or low mood
-
Improving self awareness and emotional resilience
-
Creating positive routines and structure
-
Supporting reconnection with yourself and others
Many people find holistic support especially helpful alongside psychosocial or clinical treatment.
No pressure, no expectations
There is no pressure to share personal details or talk about substance use during holistic sessions unless you want to. You can take part quietly, observe, or engage as much or as little as feels comfortable.
The focus is on safety, choice, and respect.
