Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards

Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards

This free training session gives you a clear, practical understanding of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 (MCA) and the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) as they apply to people affected by substance use.

We cover the core principles of the MCA, how to assess mental capacity, and when DoLS may be relevant in your work. You will leave with the confidence to apply these frameworks appropriately and in line with current legislation.

By the end of this session you will be able to:

  • Explain the five principles of the Mental Capacity Act
  • Carry out a mental capacity assessment in practice
  • Understand when and how DoLS applies
  • Recognise your responsibilities under the Act when supporting people with substance use issues

This session is suitable for health and social care professionals, support workers, volunteers, and anyone working with people who may lack capacity.
