Our Nightingales Hub on Argyle Street is a vibrant recovery community space in the heart of Birkenhead.
This site focuses on structured recovery, counselling and wellbeing. It is home to our Day Rehab Programme, counselling services and a wide range of holistic initiatives that support people to rebuild their lives in recovery.

Day Rehab Programme – The Discovery Academy
A structured daytime recovery programme designed to build confidence, routine and long term recovery skills in a supportive group environment. -
Structured recovery groups
A range of large and small group sessions focused on relapse prevention, emotional wellbeing, life skills and personal development. -
Holistic and wellbeing initiatives
Activities designed to support mind and body, helping people strengthen resilience and build healthy coping strategies. -
Recovery Works
Our Recovery Works provision is based here, supporting people into education, training, volunteering and employment as part of their recovery journey. -
Community café
A welcoming café space that encourages connection and peer support within the recovery community. -
Free takeaway meals
Free carry out meals are available every Tuesday and Thursday evening from 5pm until 7pm, supporting both recovery and the wider community.
Nightingales is more than a treatment site. It is a place of connection, opportunity and hope. Whether you are attending counselling, taking part in the Discovery Academy, joining a group or simply connecting with others in recovery, you will be welcomed into a supportive and inclusive environment.

Where is the Argyle Street Hub located?
We are based in Birkenhead town centre, making us easy to reach by public transport and on foot from local shops and services. Our address is Nightingales Hub, Argyle Street, Birkenhead, CH41 6AG.
Is there parking available?
There is no dedicated Wirral Ways car park at this site. Parking can be very limited at this site, there is limited paid on street parking outside the hub. The closest carparks is NCP Birkenhead Oliver Street.
If you are attending anappointment and have mobility needs, please speak to us in advance so we can discuss the best access options.
Can I get there by public transport?
The nearest train station is Birkenhead Central or Conway Park, which is within walking distance. Hamilton Square station is also nearby and connect directly to Liverpool and other parts of the Wirral via the Merseyrail network.
The building is easily accessible by bus, with Birkenhead Bus Station only a few minutes away on foot.
Is the building accessible?
We aim to make our services as accessible as possible. The building is accessible for people with mobility needs. If you have specific access requirements, please contact us ahead of your appointment so we can make any reasonable adjustments. The cafe is on the gound floor. Groups take place up stairs where there is no lift available. The counselling room is on the ground floor.
Do I need an appointment?
For many of the groups that run here, you can just turn up. Others are referral only. There are no dropin clinical or 121 appointments here. For the gym, most classes are just turn up and take part. To use the gym equipment you need an induction.
For training, you need to book on. This can be booked here.
What if I am running late?
Please call us as soon as possible. We will always try to accommodate you, but late arrival may mean we need to rearrange your appointment.
Is the service confidential?
Yes. Your privacy is very important to us. We will explain confidentiality clearly during your first visit.
Can I bring someone with me?
Yes, you are welcome to bring someone with you to your appointment if that makes you feel more comfortable. This could be a friend, family member, carer or support worker.
We will always check with you first to make sure you are happy for them to be present during your appointment. There may be times, particularly during assessments or medical reviews, where we ask to speak with you alone for part of the session to protect your confidentiality and make sure you have space to talk openly.
If the person attending with you has any access needs, or if you require an interpreter or advocate, please let us know in advance so we can make the right arrangements.
Your comfort and safety are important to us, and we will work with you to make sure you feel supported when you visit.
I feel nervous about attending. What should I expect?
It is completely normal to feel anxious. When you arrive, you will be welcomed by our reception team. You will then meet a member of our team in a private room to talk through your needs at your pace. There is no judgement, only support.
